About American Cartage: Marine Container
Delivery
American Cartage specializes in handling containers to and from
the Port of Vancouver. Good communication between the drivers and
the office is the key to the efficient handling of these containers.
We dispatch via a two-way radio system. The drivers all have cell
phones so we can stay in touch when they are outside their vehicles.

At present, our fleet consists of eighty (80) owner-operators who
are members of the Teamsters Union, Local 31. During peak periods
we also use the services of outside trucking companies as backup
to ensure we do not have any service failures. Many of our regular
drivers have been with us for many years so are able to help educate
newcomers and backup drivers when they are here at American.
Our drivers are our best salesman and we are extremely grateful
for their excellent customer service.
History
American Cartage, a privately owned company, was incorporated in
British Columbia in March, 1954. Reginald Vander Schaaf started
the company while working as a Vancouver City police officer. After
resigning from the force, Reg opened his first office and spent
the rest of his life in the trucking industry. In 1970, Reg was
joined at American by his wife, Gloria Vander Schaaf, who currently
serves as President of the company.
